UTILITY OF GENDER IN PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS COURSE

The „Utility of Gender in PSO“ course is going to be conducted from 21st to 25th October of 2013 with participation of 18 participants from OS BiH and security agencies from Bosnia and Herzegovina and 16 international participants (Macedonia – 5, Croatia – 3, Montenegro – 2, Ukraine -1, Austria – 1, France – 1, Albania – 1, Turkey – 1, Serbia -1).

The main purpose of the „Utility of Gender in PSO“ course is establishing platform for further collaboration among military, police, and civilian actors which could be found on the field. It has the aim to increase awareness and provide a conceptual understanding of gender issues in the security sector, with a particular focus on the peace support operations (PSO) context.The course is dedicated to military and police officers mid-level decision makers, as well as civilians (NGO) from the Western Balkan region who are likely to be deployed to PSO and either involved in the planning or the execution of operations. The course participants are welcomed by the PSOTC Commandant who used this opportunity to express his appreciation to the Office of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) from Belgrade, EUFOR HQ, Ministry of Security and Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina in supporting this event. Also, the Commandant expressed his appreciation to the Nordic Centre for Gender in Military Operations, led by its Commander CDR Jan Dunmurray, that will on behalf of NATO make an initial evaluation of the Course for UN and NATO accreditation.
