The Utility of Gender in PSO Course was conducted from 15th to 19th September 2014 with participation of 14 participants from OS BiH and security agencies from Bosnia and Herzegovina and 4 international participants (Macedonia – 1, Serbia - 2 and EUFOR - 1) with direct support of NCGMO from Sweden, Croatian Ministry of Interior, NATO HQ Sa, EUFOR, Ministry of Security BiH, and the British Embassy in Sarajevo. The Utility of Gender in PSO course is the result of a collaborative effort between the PSOTC and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. More than three years, these two institutions have been engaged in the development of this new curriculum. Wide variety of experts from the Armed Forces of BIH, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Security, NATO HQ BIH, the United Nations, EUFOR HQ BIH, civil society, academic and nongovernmental organizations were included and gave support to this project. The aims of the Course are to increase awareness and provide a conceptual understanding of gender issues in the security sector. It has a particular focus on Peace Support Operations and how successful missions need to communicate with women in the society. They are tasked to protect and thus how it is essential that female soldiers, police officers, and civilian staff are involved in the planning and conduct of operations. The Utility of Gender in PSO Course has been designed in accordance with NATO System Approach to Training and recognized as NATO SELECTED by Allied Command for Transformation on 17th July 2014. Although the course has been delivered in several iterations since 2012, this is the first time after its accreditation. Also, this is the first time that Prevention Sexual Violence Module is included in the course.
