From 23 to 27 June 2025, the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AF BIH) in Sarajevo proudly hosted the NATO Building Integrity in Operations Course (BIIOC). This intensive, week-long program brought together 13 dedicated participants from NATO Headquarters Brussels, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples, the Finnish Defence Forces International Centre (FINCENT), the Office of the Inspector General of the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH MOD), and PSOTC itself. This diverse assembly underlines a unified commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption initiatives within NATO operations.
The BIIOC was conducted in close collaboration with esteemed subject matter experts from NATO HQ Brussels, SHAPE, JFC Naples, NATO HQ Sarajevo, FINCENT, the Centre for Integrity in the Defence Sector (CIDS), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The course's importance was underscored by a visit from Brigadier General Uberto Incisa di Camerana, the Deputy Commander of the European Union Force in BiH (EUFOR), who delivered an insightful lecture on Civil-Military Collaboration and Building Integrity.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in a dynamic and comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance their capacity to uphold integrity in multifaceted operational environments. They participated as part of planning and operational teams, honing their skills to analyse operational landscapes, identify corruption's roots and manifestations, and assess its potential impacts on missions. The insights gained were integrated into NATO’s Comprehensive Operational Planning Process, emphasising the mitigation of corruption-related risks among both domestic and external actors. The course featured expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, and abundant networking opportunities, promoting professional growth in the area of Building Integrity and fostering international collaboration.
As the NATO BIIOC concluded, participants departed with a renewed sense of accomplishment and optimism, equipped with enhanced capabilities in Building Integrity and a broadened international network. PSOTC, AF BIH, and BIH MOD remain steadfast in their commitment to advancing international cooperation through premium training and strategic global partnerships.
