The Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AF BiH) has successfully concluded the Human Security Tactical Course, which was conducted from 26 August to 3 September 2025 in Sarajevo and the Main Training Area of AF BiH in Manjača. This edition of the course included 20 participants from five nations, 11 from Bosnia and Herzegovina and 9 from international partner countries, underscoring a robust commitment to international collaboration and professional development.

Organised in close collaboration with the British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and supported by the 11th Outreach Group of the British Armed Forces, the course aimed to improve the operational effectiveness of junior officers and NCOs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and partner nations, with the particular focus on the Western Balkans. It prepares them to integrate Human Security principles into mission planning and execution.

The opening ceremony, held on 26 August 2025, featured Major General Mirsad Ahmić, Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of AF BiH for Resources, who highlighted the strategic importance of the Human Security initiative, developed jointly by the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.

Over the course of the week, participants engaged in an intensive curriculum that addressed various aspects of Human Security, including the protection of civilians, cultural property protection, combating human trafficking, preventing violent extremism, and addressing conflict-related sexual violence. The program comprised expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, scenario-based exercises, and valuable networking opportunities, which facilitated both professional development and international cooperation.

During the closing ceremony, the achievements of the participants were acknowledged, illustrating the course's effectiveness in enhancing the application of Human Security principles in operations. Colonel Damir Alibasic, Commandant of PSOTC, commended the participants for their commitment and active involvement, highlighting the necessity of cultivating a force that is not only mission-ready but also acutely aware of human security issues. Major General Tomo Kolenda, Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of AF BiH for Operations, expressed Bosnia and Herzegovina's intention to continue and strengthen regional cooperation in Human Security. He articulated that through the sharing of knowledge and experiences with neighboring countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina can contribute to creating a safer and more stable region. Both speakers extended their gratitude to the Office of the British Defence Attaché in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the British Armed Forces for their unwavering support and partnership in organizing and delivering the course. They specifically acknowledged improvements made at the Main Training Area of AF BiH in Manjača, including the refurbishment of accommodation facilities for future trainees.

The successful completion of this course signifies a substantial advancement in fostering enhanced cooperation, mutual understanding, and shared expertise between AF BiH and the armed forces of partner nations, particularly in the realm of Human Security. This collaboration not only contributes to overall stability and peace but also significantly elevates the profile of PSOTC and AF BiH, bolstered by the support of British partners.
