The Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina conducted the NATO Building Integrity in Operations Course (NBIIOC) from 19 to 23 October 2026, bringing together military and civilian defence professionals from across NATO, partner nations, and international organizations to strengthen integrity, transparency, and accountability in operational environments. The multinational participation highlighted the shared commitment of Allied and partner nations to assimilating integrity considerations into military planning and decision-making processes.

Delivered in cooperation with subject matter experts from NATO Headquarters Brussels, NATO Joint Force Command Naples, NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, the Centre for Integrity in the Defence Sector (CIDS), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the course provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of how corruption-related risks can affect military operations, mission effectiveness, resource management, and strategic objectives.

Throughout the programme, participants examined the role of transparency, accountability, and good governance in operational contexts through a combination of expert lectures, guided discussions, case studies, and other practical exercises. Working within simulated planning and operational teams, they analysed complex operational environments, identified potential corruption risks, assessed their impact on mission execution, and explored mitigation measures within NATO's Comprehensive Operational Planning Process.

A particular focus was placed on the practical application of Building Integrity principles. Using realistic operational scenarios, participants assessed challenges that may emerge in contemporary operational environments and developed approaches to incorporate corruption risk analysis into planning and decision-making. The course also provided a valuable platform for professional exchange, enabling participants to share national experiences, perspectives, and best practices related to integrity-building across defence institutions.

The importance of the activity was underscored by the participation of Brigadier General Edin Fako, Inspector General of the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the closing ceremony.

Addressing participants at the conclusion of the course, Colonel Damir Alibašić, Commandant of PSOTC, congratulated attendees on their successful completion of the programme and thanked them for their professionalism, engagement, and active contribution throughout the week.

"Integrity, accountability, and responsible conduct are fundamental enablers of operational effectiveness and public trust. Strengthening these principles across defence institutions contributes directly to mission success and reinforces the credibility of military organizations operating in increasingly complex environments," he noted.

The NATO Building Integrity in Operations Course forms part of PSOTC's broader commitment to delivering high-quality education and training that supports NATO standards, enhances professional military competencies, and strengthens international cooperation. Through initiatives such as NBIIOC, PSOTC continues to provide a platform for developing practical approaches to integrity-related challenges while fostering lasting partnerships among Allied and partner nations.

PSOTC remains dedicated to advancing professional military training and strengthening international collaboration through innovative training programmes that support transparent, accountable, and effective defence institutions.
