The Euro-Atlantic Security Course (EASC) brought together military officers, government officials, representatives of international organisations, and members of academia in Sarajevo from 26 to 30 October 2026 for a week of professional dialogue on contemporary security developments affecting the Euro-Atlantic region. Organised by the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AF BiH), the course provided a forum for examining developments shaping the contemporary security environment and their implications for regional and international stability.

The course gathered 25 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and partner nations, creating a valuable platform for professional exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue. Its multinational and multi-institutional composition reflected the reality that contemporary security challenges increasingly transcend national borders and require coordinated responses among military, governmental, academic, and international stakeholders. The activity also highlighted the growing importance of professional military education in strengthening international security cooperation.

Against the backdrop of an evolving international security environment, participants examined a broad range of developments affecting stability across the Euro-Atlantic area. Discussions focused on contemporary geopolitical trends, transatlantic relations, NATO and European security, cyber security, hybrid threats, strategic competition, energy security, and the role of international organisations and institutions in responding to emerging security challenges. Participants also explored how political, military, economic, technological, and societal factors shape the contemporary security landscape.

Throughout the week, participants engaged with an international team of lecturers and subject-matter experts from leading educational, governmental, and international institutions. The course was delivered in partnership with the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Sarajevo and supported by distinguished contributors from the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the Austrian National Defence Academy, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United States Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies at the University of Sarajevo, and other national and international partners.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Colonel Damir Alibašić, Commandant of PSOTC, emphasised that the course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of geopolitical developments and contemporary security dynamics in the Euro-Atlantic region. He highlighted the importance of professional networking and cooperation among security practitioners, and expressed confidence that the relationships and professional connections established during the course would continue to support future collaboration among institutions and nations. He also thanked all partner institutions, lecturers, and participants for their valuable contributions to the programme's success.

Addressing the participants, Brigadier General Dr Jasmin Čajić, Deputy Commander for Operations of the Support Command of AF BiH, congratulated them on successfully completing the programme and emphasised that contemporary security challenges require comprehensive and coordinated responses. He stressed that cooperation, professional education, and shared understanding remain essential to strengthening institutional resilience and supporting peace, security, and stability across the Euro-Atlantic area. He also encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained throughout the week within their respective institutions and professional communities.

During the closing ceremony, both speakers expressed their condolences following the tragic EUFOR helicopter accident that occurred on 29 October 2026, honouring the service and sacrifice of those who lost their lives in support of peace, security, and stability.

The Euro-Atlantic Security Course is part of PSOTC's broader programme of education and training activities, aimed at supporting professional development, interoperability, and international cooperation. By bringing together military personnel, public officials, representatives of international organisations, and members of academia from different countries, EASC contributed to an ongoing professional dialogue on issues of strategic importance to the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic area.

As a NATO-recognised Partnership Training and Education Centre, PSOTC remains committed to delivering high-quality education and training, fostering international cooperation, and supporting the professional development of security practitioners to advance peace, security, and stability.
