The PSO Staff Course

Aim

To train young officers from The Armed Forces of Bosnia-Herzegovina and young officers from the international community in best practices of command and staff roles in order to make them capable of taking a full and productive place on multinational peace support operations.

Duration and Place

14 weeks at Peace Support Operation Training Centre, BiH in Camp Butmir.

Method

A mixture between Key Note Speakers from International Organisation and Agencies – lectures– plenum discussions – syndicate discussions.

There are 2 terms to the current PSO Staff Course, each of 7 weeks. The first term is the Military Doctrine term and the second term is the term that focuses more on the procedures associated with modern military peace support operations.

Instruction begins at 0845 hrs and has 4 periods in the morning and 4 periods in the afternoon. All periods are 45 mins unless there is a good reason to group 2 periods together or change timings. Lunch is 1215 to 1330 and there are two 30 minute coffee breaks starting at 1015 and 1500 hrs. 

Work ceases at 1700 hrs but the Library remains open until 1830 and to 2300 for 2 evenings per week during Term 2. This allows officers the opportunity to research material for their presentation project.

The course is run in English. NATO STANAG 6001 SLP 3-3-3-3

Participants

Each course will have up to 40 students of Lieutenants/Captains (and some few junior Majors) level of which approximately 25% will be international students (5 from the Partners and 5 from West Balkan).
