03 March 2008Over the period 18-29 February a teaching team from the PSOTC directing staff, including the Commandant and Director of Studies, deployed to the 4th AFBiH Brigade in Čapljina to deliver a 2 week staff officer training package to the brigade headquarters and its respective battalion staffs. This was our first such deployment. The staff training had been organised over the previous months through close liaison with the Operational Command staff as well as directly with the Brigade Commanders and their staff. The aim of the training was to deliver to the brigade staffs NATO doctrine and staff processes and procedures using the US Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) as the key vehicle for this. The training format saw an initial series of lectures covering NATO doctrine, the MDMP and the roles of the staff functions S1-6. It also included a lecture on the benefits of physical fitness and a period of physical training for all the staff. In Phase 2 the PSOTC teaching staff advised both the 4th Brigade staff and the battalions during an extended tutorial period which covered all 7 steps of the MDMP in detail. For the final 2 days the Commander 4th Brigade took charge of a MAPEX which confirmed the previous teaching and tutorial work. During the training the 4th Brigade was visited by both the Parliamentary Joint Commission on Defence and Security as well as by the Chief of the Joint Staff, General Podzic. The PSOTC has now refined the training programme as we move to deliver the programme to the 5th and 6th Brigades in Tuzla and Banja Luka on 17-28 March and 14-25 April respectively. Here are some pictures from this training:
